I am in the group of prime risk of catching flue: 35 years old, university teacher=lost of human contact, weak overall immunity due to allergies. I have been regularly sick with flu, so for the last 10 years I was vaccinated 5 times. Out of those 5 times, I was sick 4 times right after the vaccination with something that resembled a weak flu, and usually sick again by January/February, regardless of the vaccine (i.e. I was usually sick whether I vaccinated or not).

Now I am a scientist myself and know a bit of how the medical/pharmaceutical society operates. “Clinical tests” are nothing short of a joke. Colleagues of mine compare those “tests” to putting a rabbit in a field, shooting right, shooting left, and declaring the rabbit dead due to the average direction of a shot being towards the rabbit. Now the real “clinical tests” differ from the above description by the number of rabbits: one can take 20 humans, perform an experiment, and call it “clinical research”. (Twenty is nothing, if you still don’t understand my doubts). They are simply as hungry for results as we are. Such panics are dear to their harts, possibly to the extent that it may block their reasoning.

Therefore I am very reserved to those “Swine flu vaccinations”. I am simply more afraid of the post-vaccination side effects more than the actual sickness. Most of the panic around swine flu is caused by the presumed deaths, yet we tend to forget that those dead could have been easily killed by normal, “standard” flu. Just the risk of swine flu is somehow different. But again, how many of us have a serious, chronic illness?

To wrap it all up, stay cool, wash hands, eat garlic, and wait to see how the situation develops. Pharmaceutical companies are the last people you should be listening to at the moment. If you’re in the group of increased risk (like me), I’d also suggest avoiding large crowds, such as dance clubs.
